Religion
The constitution guarantees freedom of religion. All religious communities are legally equal. It is difficult to make binding statements on religious affiliation, as the data collected by different institutions differ from one another. In addition, as is quite common in other African countries, many respondents assign themselves to several faiths and / or religious practices at the same time, which reflects the reality of a widespread syncretistic exercise of faith, but prevents a clear statistical picture.
About 80–90% of the population can be attributed to Christianity. Supporters of the Catholic Church form the strongest religious group with around 30–33% of the population (Archdiocese of Brazzaville with eight suffragan dioceses). Members of Protestant religious communities make up between 44 and 55% of the population (a total of almost 80 denominations, including currents of the revival movement ). There are also independent churches. The largest Protestant church is the Reformed Evangelical Church of the Congo (“Eglise Evangélique du Congo”, around 15% of the population); largest independent church the Kimbanguist Church (estimated between 1.5 and almost 3%, Kimbangu ). Over 11% of people living in the Congo do not feel bound by a specific belief. Sections of the population depend on traditional African beliefs. a. in the center and in the north. Muslims (around 2%) and Bahais form small religious minorities.
Climate
Congo has an equatorial rainy climate with two rainy seasons (January to May and October to mid-December); the annual rainfall in the Congo Basin is 1,800–1,900 mm, in the area of the Lower Guinea Sill 1,400–1,600 mm, on the coast and in the rain shadow of the Mayombe 1,250 mm. The average temperatures are around 20 ° C (Lower Guinea threshold in July) and 26 ° C (coast in January) with daily fluctuations of around 10 degrees.
