Connecticut Fifty States Quarter Dollar
The Connecticut Fifty States Quarter Dollar coin depicts the historic “Charter Oak”. In 1687, the English governor Edmund Andros, who arrived in Hartford, demanded that he be given the Charter of Connecticut (a document that gave the colony the right to self-government). According to legend, all the candles in the room suddenly went out when the Charter was handed over, and when the light was turned on again, the document disappeared. It is believed that the colonists hid the Charter in the hollow of a huge oak, which later received the name “Oak of the Charter” and became one of the symbols of the American Revolution.
The inscription on the coin reads The Charter Oak (“Oak of the Charter”).
America the Beautiful
One of the quarter dollar coins from the “America the Beautiful” series is dedicated to the Weir Farm National Historical Park (“Weir Farm”), located in the state of Connecticut.
The coin depicts the artist at his easel, with Weir’s farm in the background.
The inscription on the coin reads A National Park for Art (“National Park of Art”).
