Country Abbreviations
THA is the three-letter country code of Thailand, and TH is the two-letter country code of Thailand. The two-letter suffix is used in top-level domains on the Internet as .th.
National symbols
The national flag was introduced on September 28, 1917. It is three-colored horizontally striped in the colors red-white-blue-white-red, the stripes are in a ratio of 1: 1: 2: 1: 1 to each other. Blue is the traditional color of Thailand, red symbolizes the warrior caste of the Kashatriya, white the purity. According to today’s interpretation, the color red stands for the nation, white for Buddhism and blue for the monarch.
The coat of arms was created in 1910 by King Rama VI. was introduced and has remained unchanged since then. It shows the eagle-like bird Garuda of Indian mythology, which is represented in red, in gold or in both colors. The Garuda is considered the prince of all birds and the mount of the god Vishnu.
National holiday: December 5th is the birthday of the previous King Bhumibol Aduljadeh († October 13th, 2016).
Parties
The party landscape encompasses several parties, usually founded by influential people or oriented towards their political goals. The most influential parties are the Pak Palang Pracharat (Party of the Power of the People’s State; abbreviation PPRP; founded 2018), the Pak Pheu Thai (For Thais Party; abbreviation PTP, founded 2008), the Democrat Party (DP, founded 1946, liberal), the Pak Bhum Jai Thai (Party of the Proud Thais; abbreviation BJT; founded in 2008) and the Future Forward Party (New Future Party; abbreviation FFP; founded in 2018).
Unions
The approximately 900 individual trade unions are organized in various umbrella organizations. The most important are: Thai Trade Union Congress (TTUC), National Congress of Private Employees of Thailand (NCPE), Labor Congress of Thailand (LCT), Confederation of Thai Labor (CTL) and State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation (SERC).
