MCAT Exam Dates
The MCAT (which stands for Medical College Admission Test) is offered several times a year in various test centers around the world. To schedule an MCAT test, you must first register on the official Prometric MCAT website.
We recommend that you register at least four weeks in advance. The test maker AAMC divides the registration deadlines into:
- a gold zone (about four weeks in advance)
- a silver zone (about three to four weeks in advance)
- a bronze zone (about one to two weeks in advance)
The later you register, the less flexibility there is. When choosing the exam date, it is also important to observe the application deadlines of the medical schools at which the application is to be made. It can take 30 to 35 days for the results of the MCAT to be available.

MCAT costs and financing options
The registration fee for the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is US $ 275 if you register in the Gold or Silver Zone. If you first register in the Bronze Zone, the fee is US $ 325. In addition, there is an examination outside the USA in each In the case of an international fee of US $ 90. In total, depending on the registration date, the examination fees range from US $ 365 to US $ 415. Payment of the fees is currently only possible online by credit card.
MCAT Test Structure
The MCAT examines the following three areas:
- Physics and Chemistry (Physical Sciences)
- Biology (Biological Sciences)
- linguistic understanding (verbal reasoning)
It takes about 4 hours and 5 minutes in total and consists mainly of multiple-choice questions.
The questions in the field of Physical Sciences test problem-solving skills in the general areas of these two fundamental disciplines. 70 minutes are available for this.
The area of the Verbal Reasoning takes 60 minutes. The questions test reading comprehension based on given text passages. The texts can come from the humanities, social or natural sciences and do not require any special knowledge. However, a good basic knowledge is certainly helpful.
The Biological Sciences section of the exam lasts 70 minutes and includes questions about the fundamentals of biology and organic chemistry.
Trial Section
Up until 2013 there was also another exam section – the writing sample. However, this has since been abolished. The so-called Trial Section has taken its place. This voluntary test section lasts 45 minutes and is not included in the evaluation. The Trial Section contains questions for future trial versions that will be tested in this way under realistic conditions.
