The Statue of Liberty is a majestic sculptural monument installed in Upper New York Bay on Liberty Island, one of the most famous symbols of the United States. Also included in the national monument are the Statue of Liberty Museum and Ellis Island, which for decades was the largest entry point for immigrants to the United States. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Geographically refers to both New Jersey and the neighboring state of New York. The status of a National Monument was given to the Statue of Liberty in 1924.
