Colorado state name

The name of the state of Colorado, like the names of several other states in the Western United States, came into English from Spanish.

The first Spanish explorers called the lands of the modern state of Colorado “Colorado”, which means “red”, it was red that the landscapes of this very “colorful” state actually seemed to them at first.

And when a new state of the United States was created in 1876, this name was considered suitable for it. By the way, Colorado got its nickname, “State of the Century”, precisely because of the date of its formation. The fact is that in 1876 the United States celebrated the centenary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the formation of the United States.

Colorado Springs is a picturesque city located in the state of Colorado at the foot of rocky, bizarre mountains. The location of the city and its flora create a mild climate and comfortable weather and environmental conditions for the local population and visitors. The history of this city begins in 1871. It was named after the numerous mineral springs discovered here.

Colorado Springs is home to a large number of immigrants from the UK, and because of this fact received another name “Little London”. The well-being of the city is due to the massive development of gold deposits and the creation of favorable and comfortable conditions for sanatorium recreation, sports and tourism. In particular, the city of Colorado Springs is a hub for winter sports. The tourist business is the hallmark of the city, especially for lovers of mountain landscapes and picturesque nature. In addition to sports and tourist bases, there are 2 air bases and a large military unit.

Near the city, there is the “Garden of the Gods”, in which exotic orange rocks rise. Walking in such a garden is like a fairy tale, no wonder this place is called the pearl of Colorado Springs. However, this is not the only wonderful place in the city. Red Rock Canyon also has impressive geological formations. In general, this amazing city resembles a natural museum. Particular attention of tourists is attracted by the Manitou Rock Dwellings – a natural museum. It contains copies of the so-called rock dwellings of the Indians.

Against the backdrop of ancient historical sites, the Cadet Chapel of the US Air Force Academy also surprises with its beauty and architectural design – a building built in modern design, on top of which there are 17 spiers consisting of 100 tetrahedrons covered with aluminum panels. A granite staircase leads to the main entrance. This building is a US National Monument.
