5 Myths About the GMAT

Several obstacles hinder the path of MBA candidates. Here our philosophy is very simple: we help you clear the way so you can get the best performance on your GMAT race. With that in mind, we present five myths of the GMAT test to discard in your preparation.

5 Myths About the GMAT

1. GMAT IS AN INTELLIGENCE TEST

The GMAT is just a test of your ability to make the GMAT. The test asks the candidate to possess some analytical and logical reasoning skills, but certainly not a measure of intellectual ability.

The level of both math and verbal questions is really high, and you will need time to prepare yourself, but it is possible to reach a good grade with an effective study plan and a competent instructional program.

2. THE QUANTITATIVE PART IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE VERBAL PART

Some schools actually call for a high result in the quantitative part, while others are more focused on the overall result. The result of the quantitative part is important, but when speaking of the total result, the verbal part is a little more important.

If you take a verbal percentile higher than the quantitative percentile, your overall grade will be larger than the inverse. To get a bigger overall note focus on the verbal.

3. IF I WANT TO TAKE 700, I SHOULD FOCUS THE STUDY ON THE ISSUES 700-800

When taking the GMAT test, the level of difficulty increases as you get the questions right. In order for the GMAT to present the difficult questions, you have to hit the easiest questions quickly. Master the easiest and medium-sized before you study the hardest.

4. I NEED TO TAKE 750 TO BE ACCEPTED AT A TOP TEN SCHOOL

Although a high grade is critical to being accepted in a top ten school, do not overestimate the averages presented. Half the students admitted are below average. Also, when you take out any grade above 700, what’s important is all the rest of the showing you as an excellent candidate.

5. GMAT WILL BE IRRELEVANT DURING AND AFTER THE MBA

Nothing more false. The skills you will have to master during preparation to take the test – a high level of critical thinking and strategy – will be extremely useful both in the MBA classes and in the jobs you will have afterwards.
