Over 3,870,000 people live in Oregon (the twenty-seventh most populous state in the United States). The average population density in the state is about 15.6 people per km 2 (39th place in the USA).

The largest cities in Oregon are Portland (more than 580,000 residents, twenty-ninth in the list of the largest cities in the United States), Eugene (about 160,000 residents) and the state capital of Salem (Salem, about 155,000 residents). All of them are located in the Willamette Valley region, where most of the state’s residents live.

The largest urban agglomeration in the state of Oregon was formed around Portland (about 2,230,000 people, the twenty-third place in the list of US metropolitan areas and more than half of the residents of Oregon), and it includes the settlements of the neighboring state of Washington. About 400,000 people live in the Salem agglomeration, more than 350,000 people live in Eugene.
