More than 700,000 people live in the state of North Dakota (the forty-eighth most populous among US states, only Wyoming and Vermont have fewer residents). The average population density in the state is about 3.8 people per km 2 (47th place in the USA).
The largest cities in North Dakota are Fargo (about 110,000 residents, two hundred and fifty-third place in the list of the largest cities in the USA), the state capital of Bismarck (about 65,000 residents), Grand Forks (more than 50,000 residents), Minot (about 45,000 residents) and West Fargo (about 30,000 residents).
The largest urban agglomeration in North Dakota has grown around Fargo and located on the opposite bank of the Red River, in Minnesota, the city of Moorhead. More than 110,000 people live in the Bismarck agglomeration, and about 100,000 people live in Grand Forks.
