Nature of Connecticut
The state of Connecticut is located in the Northeastern United States and belongs to the states of New England. The territory of the state of Connecticut is 14,357 km 2 (48th place in terms of area among the states of the USA, only Delaware and Rhode Island occupy a smaller area).
Connecticut is bordered by the states of New York to the west, Massachusetts to the north, and Rhode Island to the east. In the south, the coast of Connecticut is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
The state of Connecticut is located in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States.
Most of Connecticut is located within the Atlantic Lowland, only in the west, along the border with neighboring New York state, the Taconic mountain range, part of the Appalachians, stretches. It is here that the highest point of Connecticut (the southern slope of Mount Frissell, located on the border with Massachusetts, 748 meters above sea level) and the highest peak located entirely in the state (Mount Bear, “Bear Mountain”, 708 meters) are located.
One of the most popular hiking trails in the United States of America, the Appalachian Trail, passes through the Taconic Mountains (which starts in Georgia, passes through the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and ends in Maine).
The eastern slopes of the Taconic Mountains descend into the valley of the Husatonic River. This river, whose sources are located in Massachusetts, flows into Long Island Bay. The dams built on the Khusatonic River form a chain of picturesque lakes. The Husatonic River is very popular with fishing enthusiasts, it is believed that trout is caught here better than anywhere else in the Eastern United States.
Further east are the Berkshire Hills, a vast plateau cut by numerous rivers, the height of which in Connecticut is 250 – 360 meters. The Berkshires are covered with dense forests, mostly deciduous (oak, beech, hickory, maple).
Further east is the valley of the Connecticut River, the largest river in New England. The sources of this river, which gave its name to the state, are located in the north of New Hampshire, then it flows through the lands of Massachusetts, Connecticut and flows into Long Island Bay. The length of the Klnnekticut River is 655 kilometers, and the basin area is almost 30,000 km 2.
