The city of Lakewood is part of the state called Colorado. Lakewood belongs to Jefferson County and is located in its eastern part. In fact, this American city is considered a western suburb of Denver.
The settlement on the territory of today’s Lakewood was founded in 1889 after William Loveland and Charles Welch bought thirteen blocks of land here. For several decades, this settlement continued to be a provincial city without street lighting, self-government, sidewalks. In 1914, Colorado Christian University was opened here. In the summer of 1969, on the fourth attempt, Lakewood was incorporated with the status of a “city” under the name of Jefferson City, since at that time it was the largest settlement in all of Jefferson County. However, the very next year they made a decision, according to the will of the population, and returned the city to its historical name.
The city’s largest employers are: Denver Federal Center, Jefferson and Terumo Public Schools. On the territory of Lakewood are located the headquarters of such companies as: Einstein Brothers Bagels, Firstbank Holding Company, The Integer Group.
One of Lakewood’s attractions is the Ideas and Arts Lab, located in the newly rebuilt downtown Belmar. On the territory of the city there is also a wonderful national Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita. In addition, the city boasts several excellent theaters. Another attraction in Lakewood is the Heritage Center. It is a kind of museum, which consists of a large number of separate historical buildings. The heritage center is located on the shores of a beautiful lake called Kunze. Lakewood’s sister cities include Chester and Portsmouth in the UK, Stade in Germany and Sutherland Shire in Australia.
