Iowa has a humid continental climate. Winters are snowy, the average temperature in January around the state capital is -6°C, in July -25°C, summers are warm and humid. Most of the precipitation falls in the form of spring and summer rains. The state is periodically subjected to tornadoes, floods and storms. Rivers periodically overflow their banks, causing severe flooding.

ECONOMY
The food industry is Iowa’s largest economic sector. They produce canned meat, vegetable oil, starch, sugar. Iowa is called the “grain belt” of the United States, with about a third of corn used to produce ethanol. Iowa’s fields grow oats, wheat, rye, and other crops. Animal husbandry and poultry farming are also well developed.
