Idaho is the 43rd state to enter the United States and is located in the Rocky Mountain region. It consists of 44 counties and is divided into seven districts for local government. Each county has its own elected officials, including a board of county commissioners, a sheriff, a prosecutor, and other elected officials. Idaho also has 11 school districts that are responsible for providing public education from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The largest school district in Idaho is the Idaho State Department of Education (ISDE). This district serves all 44 counties across the state and offers a wide variety of educational resources for students from pre-K through grade 12. ISDE employs over 21,000 teachers and staff members across 1,500 schools in Idaho‘s public school system. ISDE works closely with numerous other government entities such as the State Board of Education (SBOE) and the University of Idaho System (UIS). These entities provide additional educational resources to students by offering college preparatory classes, special education services, career counseling programs, after-school activities, and more.
