Boston is one of the oldest, largest and most famous cities in the United States, the capital and largest city of Massachusetts, the cultural and economic center of New England.
Boston, founded on September 17, 1630, got its name in honor of a small British town located in the English county of Lincolnshire. Like many cities in the United States, it was named after the hometown of several prominent founding colonists. At one time, the city played a key role in the American Revolution, and several of the most important events of the time of the United States gaining independence took place in Boston and its environs.
